Today I am on duty. Since 8AM I have four hip fractures, one patellar fracture, one forearm double bone fractures.
There was an old lady, 92 y/o, having right hip comminuted fracture. Her heart almost stopped during the induction of anesthesia. After resuscitation, she was sent to ICU under stable condition. Believe it or not, she could talk and move after the CPR. How amazing! I kept on praying when 4 anesthesia doctors did the resuscitation. God helped us! Thank you Lord!
The family was so astonished that they couldn't say a word on the spot. As the weather is getting colder and colder, there must be more and more hip fractures.
What happened to my patients today?
Hip fractures:
one hemiarthroplasty, doing well
one CPR, to ICU
one taken over by GI due to probable liver problem
one emergent internal fixation due to young age femoral neck fracture
Patellar fracture: he fled away for traditional Tx
Radius-ulna fracture: internal fixation with plates and screws
etc... You know I can't call it a day now. Patients are coming!!!
